Bio: Olivia Smedley began writing dialogue when she was 8 years old and became fascinated with the theatre. She studied speech, entered drama festivals, participated in youth drama and worked as a volunteer at local theatres. After University in 1994, Olivia joined the Civil Service but continued to write in her spare time.
In 1996, olivia won a place on the English Touring Theatre's highly regarded playwrighting course. Her writing was workshopped by professional actors and directors and rigorously appraised by established playwrights.
In 2000, Olivia submitted an anonymous entry to a playwriting competition organised by Launchpad; the Manchester based writer's network. Her entry was selected for a showcase production and was very well received by an audience of directors and producers. Since then her career has taken off and demand for her work is steadily growing.
Olivia is a modern writer who deals with contemporary issues but using the traditional format of a linear plot, strong characterisation and realistic dialogue.
