The music of Victor Herbert highlights this entertaining new adaptation of the classic tale of "Babes In Toyland." Mother Goose Land is all astir over the rivalry between miserly Uncle Barnaby and young Alan who are competing for the love of Mistress Mary Quite Contrary. Jack and Jill, Little Bo Peep and additional fairyland characters add to the fun of the show. Alan and Mary attempt to escape from Uncle Barnaby, passing through the dangerous Spider's Forest, only to encounter Uncle Barnaby on their arrival in Toyland. Alan and Mary, with the help of the toymaker, overcome the wicked Barnaby and everyone joins in the tuneful finale. Although traditionally presented at Christmas, this enchanting children's story may be told and told again at any time of year.
