Christmas Comes to Detroit Louie
Author(s):
Bobby G. Wood
It's the day before Christmas in the waiting room of a run down medical clinic. Those waiting for the doctor include a blind girl, hoping to regain her sight through a special operation, and a disreputable character, Detroit Louie, who has brought in his friend to check on an injured finger. Louie obviously does not believe in the holiday, so when the girl says a prayer thanking God for Christmas and asking for the return of her sight, she adds, "Please Lord, let Christmas come to Detroit Louie." Two angels (one on probation) are sent to grant the girl one wish. The second angel (against all advice) decides to grant the last part of the wish. The first angel is mortified. But this unselfish wish results not only in a new life for Detroit Louie, but, in one way or another, helps all those waiting to see the doctor.
