Too Wrapped Up for Christmas

Author(s):
Dave  Brandl

In a desolate corner of the Monroe Valley Shopping Mall, the local high school's FSWA (that's the Future Social Workers of America) is trying to raise money for the county's homeless shelter. They have set up a gift wrapping service to generate donations, but their worthy efforts are not fruitful. It seems that everyone is too wrapped up in the Christmas hustle and bustle to remember the true meaning of the holiday. First, they have to work with the mall manager, who is so concerned about customers spending all their money at the stores that she refuses to move the gift wrappers to a better spot! Then there are people like Mrs. Anderson, who's most interested in buying "impressive" gifts for her children. Just when it seems that little will be collected this year, a kind and understanding Mr. Nicholas pays a visit to the booth. The wrapping paper he "accidentally" leaves behind is a magic roll that bestows upon all who touch it the spirit of loving kindness and generosity. This warm, sensitive play offers numerous small roles and is easy to stage. Ideal for the season, it sends a gentle reminder to all about the true spirit of the season.
