"The Gift" is the drama of a mother's battle with breast cancer as seen through the eyes and felt through the heart of her 16-year-old daughter. Stephanie is rocked by her mother's crisis, but a joyful affirmation of life comes from that struggle; a girl becomes a woman. Stephanie's triumph is moving and the role can be a tour de force for a young actress. The play has several strong monologues and two-person scenes for auditions and competition. Originally produced by the Organic Theatre Company in Chicago, the play was commissioned by Hope Cancer Care Network. Its message and powerful story make it excellent for outreach programs. Simple unit set.
