Gardinia's 'n' Blum
Author(s):
Nicholas A. Patricca
Gardinia's 'n' Blum, set in Chicago's Little Italy, is a comedy celebrating the friendship of Tony Gardinia, a Sicilian-born barber, and Harry Blum, a Jewish pharmacist, and their triumph over forces threatening to evict them and destroy their neighborhood. With more than a little help from Lady Luck, Tony and Harry take on and ultimately defeat the Realtors who want their valuable property, the government agencies that are taxing them, and the neighborhood's drug-dealing hood. Written with the ironic sensibility, plot twists, character foibles, and lucky accidents typical of Italian-style farce, this comedy brims with humorous affection for the diversity of individuals and cultures that make the American urban experience rich and unique.
