Harlequin Holds the Bag
Adapted by David and Susan Grote. Author(s):
Beaumarchais
Poor Harlequin is caught in the middle in this contemporary farce using the commedia characters. Leander wants Isabelle, but Isabelle wants a wedding. Pantalone can't stand Lander, and so he puts Harlequin on guard of both Isabelle and his bag of money. To "liberate" both the girl and the gold, Scapino convinces Harlequin to try some "magic boots." Before it's all over, Harlequin is tricked and trapped, contorted and confused. Packed with pranks, plots, puns and pratfalls, this show will have any audience laughing. When done in commedia style, it makes a great contest offering, but will fit on any program where you need a riotously funny show. One ext. set or bare stage.
