While Shepherds Watched
Author(s):
P.B. Rogerson
This new one act play is based on the New Testament gospels of Mark and Luke and will be a wonderful addition to either your Christmas or Easter season. A Roman centurion who witnessed the execution of Jesus at Golgotha is now alone in the hills outside Jerusalem. Reflecting on the day's events, his solitude is interrupted by his mother. Sensing that something is troubling her son, she encourages him to talk about it. During their conversation, he tells her about a childhood memory of his that has been triggered by the crucifixion of the man called Jesus. Through the use of flashback, the centurion's childhood memory comes to life. On a hillside just outside Bethlehem, he finds himself about to play an unexpected role the night an angel announces the birth of the Christ child to the shepherds.
