The Man Who Never Died
Author(s):
Barrie Stavis
Barrie Stavis' THE MAN WHO NEVER DIED is a play about Joe Hill, a songwriter, rebel and union organizer. On January 10, 1914, two masked gunmen entered a grocery store and shot and killed the owner, an ex-policeman, and his son. Joe Hill was arrested and tried for the murder.
A poorly run trial with evidence that was purely circumstantial created worldwide sympathy for the man Joe Hill and the Industrial Workers of the World for whom he created songs. Even today, many still insist Joe Hill was unjustly tried. THE MAN WHO NEVER DIED examines the reasons why the spirit of Joe Hill is alive today.
