Memory

Author(s):
John  O'brien

How real is a memory and how necessary is it to put that memory aside for reality? The play begins with a charming husband and wife recalling together the wonderful memories of their earlier romance. Then the husband's brother and psychiatrist invade the happy scene, demanding that the husband leave the house immediately. As the scene continues, we discover that the wife exists only in the husband's mind—she has been dead for many years—living only in the man's memory. Why he prefers memory to reality is a secret saved for the end of the play. One int. set.
