Simon  Block

A young couple in a new home on a normal Saturday afternoon looks forward to a bright future. Stevie has a self-defense class. Mark has the nursery to paint. That is until a prearranged appointment with door-to-door salesmen turns into a nightmare sales pitch, splitting open their relationship and ultimately threatening the very foundation of their home and life together. "…the fragile foundations of [Stevie and Mark's] relationship are ruthlessly exposed when a pair of salesmen persuade Mark that his home is in danger of falling down if he doesn't buy Excoat, the ‘brand leader' in brick treatment. At the end of the play, Mark and Stevie's relationship has more cracks than an old wall. This is a brilliantly written play which not only combines the personal with the political, but has you shifting in your seat with anxiety. Block has a rare compassion for all his characters…exciting, humorous, engaging" (Tribune, London). "…waves of dark comedy cascading…relish the central lines of comic cut and thrust as the salesmen virtually take over the household and overwhelm Mark with their glib psychobabble and sales pitch" (Evening Standard, London). "…a hugely enjoyable and astute play…" (Financial Times). "Undeniably gripping—fast, darkly funny and blessed with terrific dialogue" (Daily Telegraph, London). Unit set.
