The Octogenerian
Author(s):
Joe V. Graber
The leading characters in this play are an old man and a young man, plus a chorus of seven women and five men. It has a most unusual dramatic impact, in that it is written in the finest avant-garde style of today, yet makes use of the Greek chorus technique of 2,500 years ago. The set consists of two single beds in a hospital where an old man clings tenaciously to life and a frustrated young man has lost all interest in living. Their juxtaposed viewpoints, thoughts and dreams are intermittently emphasized by the chorus. The Octogenerian has been a consistent winner in high school drama competition.
