The Odyssey
Adapted by Amie Brockway-Henson Author(s):
Homer
Musician/Composer(s):
Elliot Sokolov
A mythical adventure for all time and all ages with gods, goddesses, monsters, storms, shipwrecks—obstacles at every turn. The goddess, Athena, tells the story of brave King Odysseus who began his journey home to Athens and his wife Penelope after 10 years of war in Troy. En route he and his men visit strange lands inhabited by the goddess Calypso, the sorceress Circe, the one-eyed giant Polyphemus, and others who do their best to detain him. It takes the ever-resourceful hero nearly 10 years to get back, and when he finally arrives, there is yet one more obstacle to overcome! The New York Times said that the play "keep[s] the youngsters on the edge of their seats." A parent said, "As soon as the children came home they wanted to re-enact everything, and they did."
