Flight Into Danger
Author(s):
Arthur Hailey
This is one of the easier plays to stage and yet it's out of the ordinary. A variety of people are about to board a plane. A mild and middle-aged passenger mentions casually that he used to fly planes himself, years ago. Then a frightening development occurs. Some of the food served on the plane is tainted and both pilots are stricken. The only hope is the man who used to fly, but he protests. He only flew small planes and doesn't know how to handle such a huge aircraft. At the other side of the stage, we see a small segment of the control tower at the airport and witness the tension as they begin the business of talking the plane down to a safe landing. Every character reacts differently, and this play is certainly a theatrical event.
