The Rocking-Horse Winner
Dramatized by Clark Fuller. Author(s):
D.H. Lawrence
The play centers around a boy who feels the covert dislike of his beautiful, luxury-craving mother and strives to win her love by being lucky. He associates luck with horse racing and sometimes, when he secretly rides his old horse, it's as if the names and winners come to him. So with the help of a young gardener, he bets on a horse running in the Ascot of the Derby and builds up a sum of money for his mother. The unforgettable climax comes in the shattering final speech. One int. set.
