Two androids are sent to Earth for the express purpose of transmitting soil and air data to their alien ship. They take on human appearance to avoid detection and assume the names of Vivian and Ernest Tinbolt. When their work is finished, they are scheduled to be terminated or destroyed. However, on Earth there is a growing affection between them. How the two "strangers in town" deal with their new life on a new planet becomes a hilarious and often touching story.
