Christmas Is for Children
Author(s):
Gil Perlroth
A poignant story which is ultimately exultant. In the kingdom of Hollygolly, everyone is planning the Christmas festivities. Queen Julia, looking forward to spending the holidays with her firstborn, sings the title song, "Christmas is for Children." King August is doubly excited and explains why in the song, "It's So Nice to Have Your Birthday on Christmas." Suddenly the little prince takes ill and dies, and everyone throughout the land mourns his death in the hymn, "God Bless the Infant Child." King August cancels Christmas. Then two orphans, a brother and sister named Augustus and Juliana who live and work in the king's stables, offer to spend the holidays pretending to be the children of the king and queen. Touched by their warmth, the king and queen adopt the children, pronouncing them prince and princess, and Christmas is once again restored to Hollygolly. Area staging.
