The Wind in the Willows (musical)
Based on the book by Kenneth Grahame. Author(s):
Douglas Post
In the words of the Chicago Sun-Times critic, "This show has wit, merriment and inspired whimsy...the delicacy of a porcelain teacup and the fine detail of exquisite lace." The score is magical—running the gamut from haunting English ballads and rippling reggae to tongue-in-cheek punk and lilting Latin congas. The story, of course, concerns the valiant friendship of the good-hearted and poetic Water Rat; the innocent and curious Mole; and the sensible, practical Badger. What tests that friendship is the arrogant, wily and slightly crazed Mr. Toad, an obsessive animal given to sudden and violent whims, like stealing motor cars and driving them recklessly about the countryside. Their thankless task is to save the Toad from himself and then to rescue the magnificent Toad Hall from the Weasels, Ferrets, and Stoats who laid claim to it while Toad was in prison. This is a tale of great humor and heroics and of simple values and responsibilities owed to one's fellow creatures. Multiple simple sets. Sound effects tape available.
