The Lovesick Computer
Author(s):
William Thomas Crow
We all know that computers can talk—but who would expect one to fall in love? David Houston is a brilliant high school student whose science fair project is to build a computer voice link that sounds realistic. What he ends up with is Susan, a lovesick computer with a sultry voice. Susan interrupts morning announcements by reading love poems to him. David's girlfriend, Darlene, thinks he's two-timing her. When she finally confronts Susan, all Susan can say is, "Does not compute. Please rephrase and try again." In despair, David finds a terrific solution. He creates another computer voice link—but this time it's a macho male! This unusual computer comedy is programmed with lots of laughs. Area staging.
