This Play proved very worthy of the youngman casted as Dalton (Which is not such an easy task) The entire play centers around the character of young Dalton and the other characters literaly hang on his every movement and word.
From day one it became clear that if DALTON lost control and the other actors were stronger the play would most certainly fall apart. This is truly DALTON's play. If any actor out acted him, I knew what the effects would be...
The first task to puttting this play on any stage is to find an unbreakable, unshakeable young actor to play DALTON.
He must have range, and likability and a stage presence beyond anything I've seen in recent new play scripts.
While the character of SAMANTHA plays deeply clued-in to the conflicts and madness on the stage the actress must be confortable with being upstaged by DALTON and keep a sense of humor... I liked casting this part because it's what I call one of those fun supportive roles. When we went to cast PARKER It was the only place we found we had room to play around abit, because the roll is written so that it could be played by almost any actor. With it we decided to have fun and casted it Black. It worked very well. PARKER adds timing and comedic overtones to this play which play- well with the live audience and his character seems to give DALTON a sense of conectedness with the audience perhaps other wise lost in sadness and pitty.
All in all this is an absolutely wonderfull play, with a high level of difficulty for most actors.
